In one of outgoing Mayor Eddie Blunts last official acts he announced town office shut downs and other restrictive measures in response to Governor Northam’s Executive Order #72 and an increase in Covid 19 cases.
In a letter to town residents Eddie Blunt writes:
Due to recent increases in COVID 19 cases in the immediate vicinity and Governor Ralph S. Northam’s Executive Order #72, all Town of Colonial Beach offices will be closed to the public effective December 16, 2020.
Town employees will still be engaged in their work duties, some from remote locations as needed. The drop box will be available at Town Hall to drop off important documents including bills.
Late payments will be considered on a case by case basis, we truly understand how difficult these times are, we will try to work with you. Please use the Town website for more information and contact information.
Trash and utility operations will continue uninterrupted.
Blunt then goes on to give his personal advice to residents concerning the pandemic and to give a final farewell to his constituents.
IF YOU ARE SICK FOR ANY REASON stay home!
I want to thank each of you, our citizens, property owners, and visitors, for allowing me to be your Mayor over these past four years. A special thanks to our past council members, volunteers, NGOs, and others behind the scenes making our Town a very special place to live and play.
Also, I have been blessed to work with an amazing group of Town employees. From the top down I have witnessed sacrifice at every level from each of you. Your commitment to our community is on display in the amazing improvements our Town has witnessed.
Each of You have put the Towns North Star clearly in sight for all to see, and we will be embracing it very soon.
Help me welcome our new Council leadership and wish them tremendous success in leading our Town.
Have a wonderful Holiday, and don’t forget the fireworks display from the Town pier on New Years eve at 7pm, social distance by staying in your vehicle, wear a mask, and never more than ten people in a group spaced at least six feet apart.
Peace to all.
