David Paul Walker, 57, has been identified as the driver of a white Toyota pick up truck that hit an 8 year old boy getting off the school bus in Henry County Virginia on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 23).
After the accident the driver of the pick up fled the scene. A Henry County School Bus video surveillance camera caught the whole incident on tape.
State police crash investigators downloaded video from the bus to help identify the Toyota. The VSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Salem Field Office and VSP Salem Division Crash Reconstruction Team are assisting with the crash investigation.
According to police, the video showed a Henry County School bus, numbered 147, traveling North, stopped in the 8000 block of Route 57 to let 8 year old Jaxon Harris off the bus.
The bus stopped with both the flashing lights and school bus stop-arm extended when young Harris was crossing the road. He was struck by a Toyota Truck traveling South. The driver immediately fled the scene.
The 8-year-old was flown to a hospital in North Carolina for treatment and despite his many injuries he is reported to be recovering much better than was expected.
Virginia State Police Troopers and Special Agents quickly investigated, identified and arrested David Paul Walker for hit and run.
Virginia State Police arrested Walker around 1:30 a.m. Friday.
