King George County Virginia is rich with history as are many of the surrounding counties, some of which were once a part of King George.
The county has no cities or towns but is made up of several census-designated places and unincorporated communities.
Home to the fourth president of the United States James Madison, due to its geographical location, King George has been dubbed the Gateway to the Northern Neck.
King George County has a population of over 23,000 residents and its largest employer is Dahlgren Navel Base, home of the Aegis Combat system.
The navel base has been a large part of King George’s growth especially in the area near the base and along Route 301 which leads to the The Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge. The bridge crosses the Potomac River into Charles County Maryland.
The county seat is located at 10459 Courthouse Drive just off of Route 3. This area is a U.S. Census designated place referred to as King George Courthouse. Many visitors get confused, believing that it is a town with the same name as the county.
