“The Virginia State Police are currently investigating the discovery of human remains in King George County. State police investigators had received information early Saturday (July 21) morning about a possible body being located in the Fairview Beach community of King George County. The remains were located and recovered, and have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for examination, autopsy and positive identification. The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated as a homicide.”
Geller said no more information can be provided about this incident until reports come back from the medical examiner’s office.
It is too early to confirm if this case is related to the case of missing Megan Metzger or Jaun Benavidez.
Metzger has been missing since Tuesday July 17.
Her car was found burned in Oak Grove, Westmoreland County on Thursday July 19.
Police suspected Jaun Benavidez of King George County as the person responsible for setting fire to the car.
After the car was discovered Virginia State Police issued a missing person’s report for Metzger.
Meanwhile officials in Westmoreland County launched a manhunt for Benavidez who was apprehended without incident at around 1:30 a.m. On Friday Morning July 20.
Currently Jaun Benavidez is being held at the Northern Neck Regional Jail. He has been charged in Westmoreland General District Court, with Arson of Personal Property. The charge is a felony and carries a fine of $500.00.
His arraignment for these charges has been set for Tuesday July 24 at 9 a.m.
