Despite Michael’s Arrival Colonial Beach Preps For Bike Fest

Despite the approach of what is left of Hurricane Michael, Colonial Beach is preparing to welcome bikers and attendees from all over the East Coast for The 5th Annual Bike Fest.

The town issued a warning over the emergency alert system at 6 p.m. on Thursday warning that the area is under a Wind Advisory and a Flash Flood Watch through midnight tonight. Wind gusts are expected to run East to Southeast at 20 to 30 miles per hour into early Friday morning with possible gusts of up to 50 miles per hour.

Heavy rain is expected through tonight ending early Friday morning.

Total rainfall amounts expected are between two to five inches.

Furthermore the town said the rainfall could produce flash flooding, particularly near creeks, streams and ditches.

The Town is also under a Tornado Watch through 9:00 p.m. on Thursday.

But work continues to go on to get ready for the upcoming events. Police also are gathering in anticipation of large crowds and the need for traffic control.
