COMMUTER TRAFFIC

VDOT will adjust the traffic pattern on Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) near Gate A to the Naval Support Facility Dahlgren to reduce congestion during weekday mornings.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Beginning this week, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will introduce a new traffic pattern on Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) in King George County near Gate A at the Naval Support Facility Dahlgren to reduce congestion on weekday mornings.

VDOT will re-stripe the center lane of Dahlgren Road between Gate A and just east of the traffic signal at Route 614 (Potomac Drive), near Potomac Elementary School. The new pavement markings will allow the center lane to serve as an eastbound-only travel lane. This will double the number of lanes entering the naval base at Gate A during peak arrival times on weekdays.

The center lane will become an additional lane with left and through movements to enter the base between the hours of 6 − 9 a.m. on Mondays through Fridays.  At all other times, traffic in the center lane will be required to turn left into the post office.

VDOT will remove the existing pavement markings and paint new ones. New signs will accompany these new lane markings to alert drivers to the new traffic pattern during 6 – 9 a.m. on weekdays.

Message boards will be posted to alert motorists to the new traffic pattern.

The new traffic pattern will go into effect on Thursday, Nov. 29, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to use caution as they navigate the new configuration. On Nov. 29, drivers can expect brief delays on Dahlgren Road between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. due to a single lane closure required to apply new pavement markings.
