EXPECT FULL STOPS ON COURTHOUSE ROAD, I-95 NORTHBOUND RAMPS AT EXIT 140 NEXT WEEK
Full stops for up to 30-minute intervals are needed overnight on Monday, Dec. 10 to lift beams into place as part of Exit 140 interchange construction in Stafford County
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Travelers on Route 630 (Courthouse Road) in Stafford County, and drivers who exit or enter Interstate 95 northbound at Exit 140/Courthouse Road, will experience brief delays overnight on Monday, Dec. 10 as construction crews place beams for a new interstate ramp.
Starting at 9 p.m. on Monday, a single right lane on I-95 northbound will close near the interchange. Weather permitting, all traffic on the I-95 northbound on- and off-ramps at Exit 140 will be intermittently stopped overnight for up to 30 minutes at a time. The full stops will start at 10 p.m. Monday and will be completed by 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Additionally, all Courthouse Road traffic will be stopped at the I-95 northbound on- and off-ramps during beam placement for up to 30-minute intervals between 10 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. All travel lanes and ramps on I-95 northbound and Courthouse Road will reopen by 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
All I-95 southbound travel lanes and ramps will remain open during this work zone.
Message boards on Courthouse Road are posted to provide advance notice of the work zone and possible delays.
Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control at the interchange.
Overnight travelers on I-95 northbound seeking to exit to Courthouse Road, or travelers along Courthouse Road seeking to enter I-95 northbound, are encouraged to use alternate routes or I-95 interchanges at Exit 136/Centreport Parkway or Exit 143/Garrisonville Road to avoid delays.
The full traffic stops are needed to allow crews to safely lift beams into place for a new ramp under construction at Exit 140. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and its contractor Shirley Contracting Company are rebuilding Exit 140 as a diverging diamond interchange. The new interchange will open to traffic by July 2020.
