VSP Seeking Public’s Help with Finding Fatal Smyth County Hit & Run Suspect

At 9:05 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 6, 2019), Virginia State Police responded to a fatal hit-and-run crash in Smyth County. A gold 1993 Honda Accord was traveling west on Riverside Road when it ran off the right side of the highway. The Honda crashed into a house in the 500 block of Riverside Road. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene. State police with the assistance of the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office continues to search for the suspect driver.

Margaret A. Poe, 87, was at home at the time of the crash and was injured as a result of it. She did not survive her injuries and died at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the suspect driver or this incident is encouraged to call the Virginia State Police at 276-288-3131 or #77 on a cell phone or by email at questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
