Be alert for construction activity on Ferry Road and on Route 3 eastbound and westbound in the Ferry Farm area of Stafford County.
Beginning Monday, March 4, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin work to improve the Route 3 Business (Kings Highway) and Route 606 (Ferry Road) intersection, located in the Ferry Farm area of Stafford County.
Motorists will begin to see construction activity on Route 3 Business and on Ferry Road between the CSX rail crossing and Route 3 Business. During the week of March 4 through March 8, all work will be limited to the roadway shoulder.
Crews will be working on Mondays through Fridays. Periodic weekend work may be needed. Travel lanes will be open at peak morning and afternoon rush hour periods on weekdays, but single lane closures will be scheduled during daytime and overnight hours.
Project Background
This project will reduce driver delays at the intersection by expanding turn lane capacity.
The $5.1 million intersection improvement project will include the construction of dual left turn lanes from Ferry Road onto Route 3 Business eastbound. The existing right turn lane from Route 3 Business westbound onto Ferry Road will be lengthened.
In addition, a left turn lane will be added on Route 3 Business westbound at the entrance to George Washington’s boyhood home at Ferry Farm. A right turn lane will be added on Route 3 Business eastbound into Ferry Farm.
Existing traffic signal equipment will be upgraded to accommodate the additional turn lanes.
Construction is expected to be complete in June 2020.
The project contractor is Henderson Construction Company, Inc., of Stafford.
