VDOT’s 14-county Fredericksburg District includes the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford in the Fredericksburg area; Northumberland, Richmond, Lancaster and Westmoreland counties in the Northern Neck; Essex, Gloucester, King & Queen, King William, Mathews and Middlesex counties in the Middle Peninsula.

Stafford County Work Zones
Interstate 95 Roadway Technology Equipment Repairs
Sunday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect alternating single lane closures for a mobile work zone at the following locations to allow crews to repair roadway technology equipment:
I-95 Northbound
·      Mile marker 132 (north of Exit 133/Route 17)
I-95 Southbound
·      Mile marker 145 (south of Exit 148/Quantico) to Exit 143/Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
·      Exit 140/Route 630 (Courthouse Road)
·      Mile marker 138 (south of of Exit 140)
·      Exit 133/Route 17 (Falmouth)
·      Mile marker 129 (south of Exit 130/Route 3)
Route 17 near Fauquier County Line
Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 12 p.m., Friday, 12 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.  Expect alternating lane closures on Route 17 northbound and southbound near the Stafford County and Fauquier County line for bridge repairs near Hartlake Road.
Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Widening Work:
Monday – Tuesday, 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., Expect brief delays with alternating, one-way traffic at the following locations:
·      Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane to Walpole Street and Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive.
·      Ramoth Church Road
·      Snowbird Lane
·      Winding Creek Road between Courthouse Road and Embrey Mill Road
·      Woodcutters Road
·      Wyche Road
American with Disabilities Act Ramp Repair
Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 12 p.m.,  Crews will repair sidewalk ramps and pedestrian crossings on these routes for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). There may be temporary, alternating shoulder closures or flagging operations with this work. Motorists should be alert to a mobile work zone with crews and construction equipment at the following intersections:
·      I-95 Northbound Off-Ramp to Route 8900 (Centreport Parkway)
o  Expect a single lane closure on the I-95 northbound off-ramp to Centreport Parkway at Exit 136 interchange. A flagging crew will be located on Centreport Parkway. The exit ramp will remain open.
·      Route 1 Northbound between Cranes Corner Road and Potomac Creek Drive
·      Route 1 Northbound near Route 624 (Layhill Road)
·      Route 607 (Cool Springs Road) intersections with Route 3 Business and Route 212 (Chatham Heights Road)
·      Route 607 (Cool Springs Road) intersections with Route 3 Business and Route 218 (White Oak Road)
Patriots Landing Subdivision
Monday – Tuesday, 7:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect a mobile operation for pavement repair in the Patriots Landing subdivision. They will start on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) near Brafferton Boulevard and move towards Willingham Court. After patching, workers will return to mill and pave. Motorists may experience a rough travel surface. A flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic in the work zone.
Spotsylvania County Work Zones
Route 3 (Plank Road)
Monday – Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. A single left lane will be closed on Route 3 near Andora Drive at the bridge over Lick Run to allow crews to take soil samples.
Mineral Springs Subdivision
Wednesday, 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. Expect a mobile operation to allow crews to patch potholes on various routes in the Mineral Springs subdivision. After patching, workers will return at a later date to mill and pave. Motorists may experience a rough travel surface. A flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic in the work zone.
Caroline County Work Zones
Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) Eastbound
Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 12 p.m., Friday, 12 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on eastbound Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) between Route 656 (Coleman’s Mill Road) and Penola Road for bridge repairs. Delays are possible.
Route 652 (Ruther Glen Road)
Saturday, June 29 – Sunday, July 1, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Expect alternating single lane closures on Route 652 (Ruther Glen Road) near Route 620 (Chesterfield Road) at the bridge over rail road tracks for bridge inspection work.
Route 684 (Dry Bridge Road)
Saturday, June 29 – Sunday, July 1, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Expect alternating single lane closures on Route 684 (Dry Bridge Road) near Jesse Lane at the bridge over rail road tracks for bridge inspection work.
Route 722 (Colonial Road)
Saturday, June 29 – Sunday, July 1, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Expect alternating single lane closures on Route 722 (Colonial Road) near Antioch Road at the bridge over rail road tracks for bridge inspection work.
Essex County Work Zone
Surface Treatment
Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect flagging operations on various low-volume secondary routes throughout Essex County, including Route 639, for surface treatment.
Gloucester County Work Zone
Route 641 (Tidemill Road)
Monday – Tuesday, 7:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Wednesday, 7:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.,  and Friday, 12 p.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 641 (Tidemill Road) at the bridge over Sarah Creek, which is located between Route 17 and Guinea Road, for bridge repairs. Delays are possible.
King George County Work Zone
Surface Treatment
Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect flagging operations on various low-volume secondary routes throughout King George County, including Route 730, for surface treatment.
King William County Work Zone
Route 360 (Richmond Tappahannock Highway)
Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect a single left lane to be closed on eastbound Route 360 (Richmond Tappahannock Highway) near Mount Pleasant Road to allow crews to repair the bridge over Moncuin Creek.
Mathews County Work Zone
Gwynn’s Island Bridge
Monday – Tuesday, 7:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Wednesday, 7:30 a.m. – 7 p.m.  Expect flagging operations on Route 633/Old Ferry Road at the Gwynn’s Island Bridge over Milford Haven for a routine safety inspection. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic across the movable bridge.
Middlesex County Work Zone
Milling, Paving and Line-Striping
Sunday – Tuesday, 6 p.m. – 5:30 a.m., Wednesday 5:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures and possible delays at various locations while crews mill, pave and replace existing pavement markings. Motorists should expect slow moving construction equipment and delays near the mobile work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear. A flagging crew may direct drivers in certain areas near the mobile work zone.
·      Route 17 Northbound Business and Route 17 Southbound Business near Route 17 (Tidewater Trail)
·      Route 17 near Route 945 (Diesel Drive) and Route 17 Business intersection
·      Route 33 near Route 17 Business and Route 618 (Oakes Landing Road) and VDOT Saluda Residency Office
Richmond County Work Zones
Surface Treatment
Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect flagging operations on various low-volume secondary routes throughout Richmond County, including Route 690, for surface treatment.
Westmoreland County Work Zones
Route 202 (Cople Highway)
Sunday – Tuesday, 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. and Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 12 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures and possible delays on Route 202 (Cople Highway) between Route 621 (Prospect Hill Road) and Route 612 (Cole’s Point Road). Other Fredericksburg District Projects
Stafford County
·       Route 3 Business and Route 606 (Ferry Road) Intersection
Workis underway to improve this intersection. Motorists should be alert for construction activity on Route 3 Business and on Ferry Road between the CSX railroad crossing and Route 3 Business. For more information about the project, please visit the project page.
·       Route 608 (Brooke Road): ROAD CLOSED
Brooke Road is closed to through traffic near Eskimo Hill Road. This is a Stafford County project to realign the roadway to improve safety and drainage. The road will reopen by July 2019. For more information about the project and the detour route, please visit the county’s project page.
Spotsylvania County
·      Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) Bridge Replacement: ROAD CLOSED
Construction is underway to build a replacement bridge on Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) over the North Anna River, which will restore a connection between Hanover County and Spotsylvania County. The new bridge is estimated to open in summer 2019. Visit the project page for additional details.
Emergency Road Repairs: Tropical Storm Michael
Emergency repair work continues to rebuild several state-maintained roads that sustained severe damage during Tropical Storm Michael. These roads require major reconstruction or replacement of pipes and culverts before they can safely be reopened. Emergency procurement methods are being used to expedite repairs.
Estimated construction schedules for the remaining closed roads in Fredericksburg District are listed below:
King William County
·      Route 662 (Sharon Road): Anticipated to reopen in August 2019.Crews will reconstruct a slope near the road and repair the culvert.
Northumberland County
·      Route 634 (Spring Road): Anticipated to reopen in August 2019.Crews are repairing the bridge and replacing a washed out section of road.
Westmoreland County
·      Route 600 (Nomini Grove Road): Anticipated to reopen in August 2019.Crews are repairing a void underneath the road and replacing a washed out section of road.
Motorists are reminded to adhere to all road closed signs and barricades, and to follow the posted detour route. Roads have been closed for traveler safety.
