VDOT HOT SPOTS July 28 – Aug. 3, 2019

Interstate 95 Southbound
Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Friday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Saturday. Drivers can expect a single left lane closure overnight on I-95 southbound between mile markers 134 – 136, which is located between Exit 136/Centreport Parkway and Exit 133/Falmouth. Crews will be installing work zone signs and building construction entrances to the median for the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. All lanes will open by 10 a.m. the following morning, expect on Friday, when all lanes reopen by 6 a.m. On Saturday, all lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Route 630 (Courthouse Road)
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect brief delays with alternating, one-way traffic at the following locations:
·      Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane to Walpole Street and Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive
·      Ramoth Church Road
·      Snowbird Lane
·      Winding Creek Road between Courthouse Road and Embrey Mill Road

Courthouse Road CLOSED and Detour (Friday, Aug. 2 – Monday, Aug. 5)
Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, through 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, Courthouse Road will close to all traffic between Mine Road and Austin Ridge Drive. This will allow crews to finish construction activities to open a new intersection with Austin Ridge Drive west of the current intersection. A traffic signal at the new intersection of Courthouse Road and Austin Ridge Drive will be activated before the morning rush hour on Monday, Aug. 5. Signs will guide motorists along the posted detour route:

Districtwide Guardrail Repair
Monday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Crews will be repairing or replacing guardrail along various routes throughout the Fredericksburg District. Expect single lane closures and a flagging crew to direct drivers in the work zone at the following locations:

Interstate 95 Northbound
·      Monday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Expect a single right lane closure on I-95 northbound between mile marker 134 and Exit 136/Centreport Parkway to allow crews to inspect an overhead sign.
·      Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Crews will be milling and paving I-95 northbound between mile markers 135 and 137, near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway. One northbound lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. each night. All I-95 northbound lanes reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning.
Interstate 95 Southbound
·      Monday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Expect a single right lane closure on I-95 southbound between Exit 136/Centreport Parkway and mile marker 138 to allow crews to inspect an overhead sign.
·      Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Expect a single right lane closure on I-95 southbound near Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) to allow crews to inspect an overhead sign.
Route 3 Eastbound and Westbound
Sunday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m., Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m.– 3 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m.– 12 p.m. Expect single lane closures with asphalt and drainage work on Route 3 eastbound and westbound between Cool Springs Road and the Blue and Gray Parkway. The work is part of the Ferry Road and Route 3 intersection improvement project.
Route 17 Northbound and Southbound
Monday – Sunday, 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 17 northbound and southbound between Hartlake Road and the Fauquier County line for bridge work.
Route 651 (Kellogg Mill Road)
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Crews are patching, paving and placing shoulder stone on Route 651 (Kellogg Mill Road) between Route 616 (Poplar Road) and Route 627 (Mountian View Road).  Drivers should be alert for construction crews, equipment and one-way, alternating traffic directed by a flagging crew.
Route 8900 (Centreport Parkway)
Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Expect a single right lane closure on westbound Centreport Parkway to allow crews to inspect overhead signs.
American with Disabilities Act Ramp Repair
Crews will repair sidewalk ramps and pedestrian crossings on these routes for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). There may be temporary, alternating shoulder closures or flagging operations with this work. Motorists should be alert to a mobile work zone with crews and construction equipment at the following intersections:

·      Route 607 (Cool Springs Road) intersection with Butler Road, Jadlip Lane and Route 218 (White Oak Road)
Flashing Yellow Arrow
Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Crews will install traffic signal equipment to display a flashing yellow arrow at the following intersections, along with high-visibility signal back plating.  The flashing yellow arrow signal helps drivers turn left safely against oncoming traffic. Be alert to flaggers in the work zone to direct drivers through the intersection. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Expect brief delays.

Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

Spotsylvania County
Route 3 Eastbound
Sunday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure for milling and paving from just west of Route 1482 (Big Ben Boulevard) and Route 620 (Spotswood Furnace Road). All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Route 3 Westbound
Sunday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure for milling and paving. Work will take place from just west of Route 626 (Andora Drive) to just west of Route 620 (Spotswood Furnace Road. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Route 208 Eastbound and Westbound (Courthouse Road)
Sunday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure for milling and paving. Work will take place from the Route 208 bridge over Interstate 95 to just south of Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) intersection. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road)
Monday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) near I-95 for survey work.
Routine Maintenance
Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

Caroline County
Route 301 Northbound and Southbound
Tuesday − Friday, 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on Route 301 northbound and southbound near the Route 17 intersection in Port Royal. Crews will be repairing the bridges over Mill Creek.
Surface Treatment
Thursday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Drivers should expect delays on Routes 658 (Jericho Road) and Route 721 (Newtown Road/Sparta Road) for surface treatment work. A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic through each work zone.
Routine Maintenance
Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
·      Route 601 (Golansville Road) – ditch cleaning operations

Route 17 Southbound
Sunday – Monday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m., Single lane closure on Route 17 southbound for bridge joint repair work at Mt. Landing Creek, north of Tappahannock.
Route 17 Northbound and Southbound
Monday – Wednesday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect a mobile operation with single lane closures on Route 17 northbound and southbound at various locations in Essex County. Crews will be conducting a routine inspection of several traffic signal poles in the county. Overnight delays are possible.
Gloucester County
Route 17 Northbound and Southbound
Monday – Wednesday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect a mobile operation with single lane closures on Route 17 northbound and southbound at various locations in Gloucester County. Crews will be inspecting several traffic signal poles.
Route 641 (Tidemill Road)
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.Single lane closure on Route 641 (Tidemill Road) at the bridge over Sarah Creek, which is located between Route 17 and Guinea Road, for bridge repairs. A flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic across the bridge.
King George County
Route 206 (Dahlgren Road)
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.  Crews will direct one-way, alternating traffic on Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) between Route 644 (Potts Lane) and Route 301 for milling and paving. This work is part of a resurfacing and safety improvement project that will result in a smoother travel surface on several high-volume roads, and reduce the risk of crashes at spot locations by adding centerline rumble strips and widening the road shoulders. Route 360 Northbound
Monday – Sunday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Expect a single lane closure on Route 360 northbound between Mt. Pleasant Road and Commerce Park Drive for bridge beam repairs.
King and Queen County
Route 14
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect a single lane closure on Route 14 from Route 360 (Richmond Tappahannock Highway) to Route 614 (Devils Three Jump Road) for milling and paving work as part of a resurfacing project. Lancaster County
Route 3 in Kilmarnock
Monday – Wednesday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect mobile single lane closures on Route 3 in the town of Kilmarnock to allow crews to inspect the traffic signal poles.
Middlesex County
Surface Treatment
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Drivers should expect delays on multiple routes for surface treatment work, including routes 643, 677, 685, 717, 718, 720, 721 and 1109. A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic through each work zone.
Northumberland County
Route 614 (Lake Road)
Thursday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be paving Route 614 (Lake Road) between Route 360 (Northumberland Highway) and Route 627 (Lake Landing Drive). A flagging crew will direct drivers in the work zone.
Westmoreland County
Route 202 (Cople Highway)
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures and possible delays at various locations on Route 202 (Cople Highway) for pavement repair. Motorists should expect slow-moving construction equipment and delays near this mobile work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear. A flagging crew will direct drivers by alternating one-way traffic near this mobile work zone.

Stafford County
·       Route 3 Business and Route 606 (Ferry Road) Intersection
Workis underway to improve this intersection. Motorists should be alert for construction activity on Route 3 Business and on Ferry Road between the CSX railroad crossing and Route 3 Business. For more information about the project, please visit the project page.
·       Route 608 (Brooke Road): ROAD CLOSED
Brooke Road is closed to through traffic near Eskimo Hill Road. This is a Stafford County project to realign the roadway to improve safety and drainage. Recently, the county announced that Brooke Road will remain closed with a detour in place until late September 2019. King William County
·       Route 662 (Sharon Road): ROAD CLOSED
Project schedule under development. Crews are repairing damage from Tropical Storm Michael. The project is reconstructing a slope near the road and replacing the culvert.
Spotsylvania County
·      Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) Bridge Replacement: ROAD CLOSED
Construction is underway to build a replacement bridge on Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) over the North Anna River, which will restore a connection between Hanover County and Spotsylvania County. The new bridge is estimated to open in summer 2019. Visit the project page for additional details.
Motorists are reminded to adhere to all road closed signs and barricades, and to follow the posted detour route. Roads have been closed for traveler safety.
