I-95 Major Interstate Work
I-95 Northbound at Exit 133/Route 17
I-95 motorists are strongly encouraged to choose an alternate route to avoid delays, especially through travelers with destinations outside the Fredericksburg area starting Saturday, Sept. 21, at 4 p.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.
Work Zone Timeline
Saturday, Sept. 21 – Sunday, Sept. 22
· 4 p.m. – Single lane will close near Rappahannock River bridge and Exit 133/Route 17
· 5 p.m. – I-95 northbound traffic will be divided among two travel lanes. The right lane will remain open and the northbound exit and entrance ramp, also known as a collector-distributor lane, will serve as the second northbound lane.
· 8:30 p.m. Saturday – 10 a.m. Sunday ALL I-95 northbound traffic will be diverted onto the collector-distributor lane. Route 17 traffic will not be permitted to access I-95 northbound from the Exit 133 interchange during these hours. The exit ramps from I-95 northbound to Route 17 will remain open.
This work zone has been scheduled weather permitting. If the work zone is cancelled, it will be rescheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 through 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29.

Crews will be shifting all I-95 northbound traffic to the new bridge over Route 17 in Stafford County as part of the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing Project.
Following weekend work, here are the following lane closures for this project:
I-95 Southbound at Exit 133 (Route 17)
· Tuesday − Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m.
o Expect a single lane closure on I-95 southbound near Exit 133/Route 17 followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. Wednesday.
· Wednesday − Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
o The on-ramp to I-95 southbound from Route 17 will be closed to allow crews to install concrete barrier and temporary pavement markings. The on-ramp will reopen at 4:30 a.m. Drivers are encouraged to U-turn at Short Street and access I-95 southbound from northbound Route 17.
· Thursday − Friday,
o 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. A single right lane on I-95 southbound will be closed at Exit 133/Route 17. The on-ramp from Route 17 to I-95 southbound will also be closed during this time to allow crews to install concrete barrier and temporary pavement markings. All lanes and ramp will reopen at 4:30 a.m.

Stafford County
I-95 Southbound at Exit 136/Centreport Parkway
Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Crews will mill and pave a section on I-95 southbound near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway. A single lane on I-95 southbound will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Also at 10 p.m., the entrance and exit ramps to Centreport Parkway will be closed. All lanes and ramps will reopen at 4:30 a.m. Expect overnight delays.
I-95 Northbound at Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)
Sunday – Monday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Expect a mobile operation on I-95 northbound near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway to allow crews to install raised snow plow markers.
I-95 Northbound at Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)
Monday – Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Expect a single left lane to be closed on I-95 northbound near Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) for milling and paving as part of the Exit 140 Interchange Reconfiguration project.
I-95 Southbound at Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)
Thursday, 12 a.m. – 10 a.m. Expect a single left lane to be closed on I-95 southbound near Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) for milling and paving as part of the project mentioned above.
I-95 Northbound at Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)
Thursday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Expect a single left lane to be closed on I-95 northbound between Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) for clearing and grubbing operations in the median as part of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.
Route 1 at Potomac Creek Drive
Monday − Thursday, 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Friday, 7 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect the right lane on Route 1 southbound near Potomac Creek Drive. Construction will begin to build a left turn lane on Route 1 southbound. Read the news release.
Route 17 near Fauquier County Line
Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 17 near the Stafford County and Fauquier County line to repair the bridges over Deep Run near Hartlake Road.
Route 630 (Courthouse Road)
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. As part of the Courthouse Road widening project, expect brief delays with alternating, one-way traffic at the following locations:
· Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane to Walpole Street and Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive
· Ramoth Church Road
· Snowbird Lane
· Winding Creek Road between Courthouse Road and Embrey Mill Road

Route 17 (Mills Drive)
Saturday, Sept. 21, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 17 at the bridge over CSX railroad tracks for bridge inspection.
Route 672 (Hall Industrial Drive)
Monday -Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 672 (Hall Industrial Drive) at the Massaponax Church Road intersection for guardrail repair. A flagging crew will direct drivers in the work zone.
Caroline County
Route 207 Eastbound
Monday -Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect a right lane closure on Route 207 eastbound near the Route 684 (Dry Bridge Road) intersection and Route 687 (First Street) for guardrail repair.
Route 301 Northbound and Southbound
Monday − Friday, 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on Route 301 northbound and southbound near the Route 17 intersection in Port Royal. Crews will be repairing the bridges over Mill Creek.
Route 301 Northbound near Sparta Road
Monday -Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect a right lane closure on Route 301 northbound near the Route 721 (Sparta Road) intersection for guardrail repair.
Route 658 (Jericho Road)
Monday – Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures and flagging operations on Route 658 (Jericho Road) near the Route 1 intersection and Route 601 (Cedar Fork Road) for surface treatment. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic in the work zone. Delays are possible.
Essex County Work Zone
Route 17 Northbound
Monday -Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect a left lane closure on Route 17 northbound near the Route 625 (Supply Road) intersection for guardrail repair.
Essex County/Richmond County Work Zone
Route 360 at the Downing Bridge
Monday – Sunday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on the Downing Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Automatic flagging devices will be placed near the center span of the bridge to control traffic. Crews will be performing spot painting and concrete repairs underneath the bridge. Expect overnight delays.
Gloucester County
Route 641 (Tidemill Road)
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 641 (Tidemill Road) at the bridge over Sarah Creek, which is located between Route 17 and Guinea Road, for bridge repairs.
Surface Treatment
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic and flagging operations on various low-volume secondary routes for surface treatements. A flagging crew will direct drivers in the work zone at the following routes: 616, 621 and 665.
King George County
Route 3 Eastbound and Westbound
Sunday – Thursday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on Route 3 between Route 610 (Saint Anthony Road) and Route 205 (Ridge Road) for milling and paving. This work is part of a resurfacing and safety improvement project that will result in a smoother travel surface on several high-volume roads, and reduce the risk of crashes at spot locations by adding centerline rumble strips and widening the road shoulders. Read the news release. Drivers may experience a temporary rough travel surface in the milled areas before its paved. Overnight delays are possible.
Route 206 (Dahlgren Road)
Monday – Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. Expect on mobile operations on Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) between Route 301 and Route 3 for final pavement markings. This work follows the same project mentioned above on Route 3. As part of the project, crews will be milling and paving other locations at the following dates and times :
· Route 624 (Owens Drive) between Route 206 and Mathias Point Road intersection
o Monday – Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
· Route 1150 (Commerce Drive) between Potomac Drive and Route 301
o Monday – Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Route 360 Eastbound
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect a left lane closure on Route 360 eastbound near the Route 600 (Pine Tree Road) intersection for guardrail repair.

Fredericksburg District
Stafford County
· Route 3 Business and Route 606 (Ferry Road) Intersection
Workis underway to improve this intersection. Motorists should be alert for construction activity on Route 3 Business and on Ferry Road between the CSX railroad crossing and Route 3 Business. For more information about the project, please visit the project page.
· Route 608 (Brooke Road): ROAD CLOSED
Brooke Road is closed to through traffic near Eskimo Hill Road. This is a Stafford County project to realign the roadway to improve safety and drainage. Recently, the county announced that Brooke Road will remain closed with a detour in place until late September 2019. King William County
· Route 662 (Sharon Road): ROAD CLOSED
Project schedule under development. Crews are repairing damage from Tropical Storm Michael. The project is reconstructing a slope near the road and replacing the culvert.
