Virginia State Police are investigating a hit and run accident that occurred last Sunday. The driver hit a teenager on a bicycle and fled the scene however police apprehended him shortly after the incident.
The boy was taken to the hospital for serious injuries.
According to a press release at 9:57 a.m. on Sunday (Nov. 14), Virginia State Police responded to a crash on Route 609 (Browns Store Rd.) approximately a half-mile west of Route 200 (Jessie DuPont Memorial Hwy.).
A bicycle was traveling east in the westbound lane of Route 609 when it was struck by a westbound 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. The Tahoe did not stop and left the scene.
The cyclist, a 14-year-old male from Heathsville, Va., was transported for treatment of serious injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the Tahoe, Johnshonika J. Gregory, 25, of Heathsville, Va., was apprehended shortly after the crash.
Gregory was charged with felony hit and run (46.2-894). Gregory was not injured in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
