As heavy snow continues to fall, motorists are advised to remain off the roads due to hazardous travel conditions; I-95 southbound closed at exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) in Stafford due to crash involving multiple tractor-trailers
Motorists are urged to continue avoiding travel today in the Fredericksburg area as heavy snow falls at an intense pace, and state-maintained routes are in severe condition.
Interstate 95 southbound is closed near exit 136 (Centerport Parkway) in Stafford County due to a crash involving multiple tractor-trailers. Interstate 95 northbound is reduced to a single lane near exit 140 (Courthouse Road) in Stafford due to disabled tractor-trailers.
VDOT has deployed resources at its maximum mobilization level in response to this winter storm, with up to 1,300 trucks available districtwide, and is shifting resources to locations experiencing the heaviest accumulation, especially in the Fredericksburg area.
As snow continues to fall, crews are focusing first on responding to clear interstate incidents, and making repeated passes to the interstate, primary roads, and critical routes that serve public safety and emergency facilities.
Once the storm has subsided, and conditions improve on the interstate and primary roads, crews can begin to plow secondary roads and subdivision streets.
