PAVING WORK TO BE UNDERWAY ON NORRIS BRIDGE ON THURSDAY, AUG. 23

Drivers can expect travel delays and one-way, alternating traffic on Route 3 at the

Robert O. Norris Bridge between Middlesex and Lancaster counties

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Motorists crossing the Robert O. Norris Bridge over the Rappahannock River between Lancaster and Middlesex counties will encounter travel delays on Thursday, Aug. 23, due to paving work underway on the bridge.

Route 3 will be reduced to a single lane on a portion of the bridge. Automated flagging devices will direct one-way, alternating traffic, controlled by members of a flagging crew.

Driver delays are expected to be longest during the afternoon peak travel time of 3-6 p.m. due to heavier traffic volumes. Paving will begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow and continue into Thursday evening.

Paving is nearly complete on a $5.4 million project to replace the Norris Bridge deck overlay, which is the travel surface that motorists ride on. The overlay also serves as a protective layer over the bridge’s steel deck.
