VDOT HOT SPOTS IN THE REDERICKSBURG DISTRICT Dec. 16 – 22, 2018

Interstate 95 – Northbound and Southbound
Expect a single lane closure between mile marker 129 which is near Exit 130 (Route 3) and Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway).
·      Monday – Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m., single lane closure on I-95 northbound
·      Monday – Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m., single lane closure on I-95 southbound
Route 17 – Northbound (24-hour closure)
Be alert to the 24-hour closure of a single right lane on Route 17 northbound between Sanford Drive and Short Street for construction activities related to the project. The 24-hour closure is needed to allow crews to work safely with construction equipment near the on- and off-ramps, travel lanes and underneath the I-95 overpasses.
I-95 Southbound
(New)Sunday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. I-95 southbound will be reduced to a single lane near the interchange for a mobile operation to improve pavement markings. Delays are possible.
(New)Monday, 5 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. A single lane on I-95 southbound will be closed near Exit 140 to allow crews to take soil samples for a future overhead sign foundation.
I-95 Northbound
(New)Monday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  A single lane on I-95 northbound will be closed near Exit 140 to allow crews to take soil samples for a future overhead sign foundation.
(New)Monday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.  A single lane on I-95 northbound will be closed for beam placement for a new interstate ramp.
(New)Tuesday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  A single lane on I-95 northbound will be closed near Exit 140 to allow crews to remove temporary concrete barrier.
I-95 Northbound FULL RAMP STOPS, Courthouse Road and Austin Ridge Drive FULL TRAFFIC STOPS
(New)Monday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, ALL traffic on the I-95 northbound on- and off-ramps at Exit 140 will be intermittently stopped overnight for up to 30 minutes at a time starting at 10 p.m. and will be completed by 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. Additionally, all Courthouse Road and Austin Ridge Drive traffic will be stopped at the interchange during beam placement. The full stops are needed to allow crews to safely lift beams into place for a new interstate ramp. All I-95 southbound travel lanes will remain open during this work zone. Message boards on Courthouse Road are posted to provide advance notice of the work zone and possible delays. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control at the interchange.
I-95 Southbound Off-Ramp
Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.  Expect a narrowing of the off-ramp from I-95 southbound to Courthouse Road for construction activities.
Courthouse Road Widening Work:
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect brief delays with alternating, one-way traffic at the following locations:
·      Courthouse Road between Austin Ridge Drive and Mine Road, Cedar Lane to Walpole Street and  Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive.
·      Ramoth Church Road
·      Snowbird Lane
·      Winding Creek Road
·      Woodcutters Road
·      Wyche Road
A flagging crew will direct drivers in each work zone.
Mudd Tavern Road and Mallard Road
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Mudd Tavern Road and Mallard Road near the interchange for construction. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.
Stafford County Work Zones
Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway)
(Update) Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Expect a single right lane on Route 1 northbound and southbound from Hospital Center Boulevard to Wyche Road to be closed for turn lane construction. Delays are possible.
Route 3 Eastbound 24-Hour Lane Closure
A single lane is closed on Route 3 eastbound between Leonard Road and James Ashby Parkway for a Stafford County utility project. The lane closure will remain for the duration of the county’s project.
Routine Maintenance
Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
·      Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) – shoulder repairs
·      Route 608 (Andrew Chapel Road) – ditch cleaning
Spotsylvania County Work Zones
Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) at I-95
Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound at the I-95 overpasses for bridge repairs.
Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) at Route 620 (Harrison Road)
(New) Wednesday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 1 southbound near Route 620 (Harrison Road) to allow crews to take soil samples. the I-95 overpasses for bridge repairs.
Routine Maintenance
Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
·      Route 208 (Courthouse Road) – vegetation control
·      Route 606 (Morris Road) – ditch cleaning
·      Route 618 (River Road)– ditch cleaning
Caroline County Work Zones
Routine Maintenance
Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
·      Route 2 (Fredericksburg Turnpike) – shoulder repairs
·      Route 603 (County Line Road)– ditch cleaning
·      Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) – ditch cleaning
·      Route 648 (Sunshine Road) – litter pickup
·      Route 664 (Balty Road) – ditch cleaning
·      Route 1041 (Portabago Trail) – ditch cleaning
Caroline County/King George County Work Zone
Monday − Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound near the James Madison Bridge over the Rappahannock River for a bridge maintenance project. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.
Essex County and Richmond County Work Zones
Route 360 at the Downing Bridge
(Update)Monday – Sunday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on the Downing Bridge over the Rappahannock River for bridge repairs. Automatic flagging devices will be placed near the center span of the bridge to control traffic. Expect overnight delays
Gloucester County Work Zones
Route 17 at Guinea Road
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 17 near Guinea Road and Ernest Lane for traffic signal installation. Delays are possible.
King William County Work Zone
Route 30
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 30 in King William County near the Caroline County line to allow crews to install center line rumble strips. Expect brief delays at various locations with the mobile operation.
Middlesex County Work Zone
Route 17 at Lovers Retreat Lane
(New) Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect a single lane to be closed on southbound Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) from Lovers Retreat Lane to Clifton Road for traffic engineering work. Delays are possible.
Other Fredericksburg District Projects
Stafford County
·       Route 608 (Brooke Road) CLOSED for Stafford County Project
Brooke Road is closed near Eskimo Hill Road. This is a Stafford County project to realign the roadway to improve safety and drainage. The road will remain closed until January 2019. For more information about the project and the detour route, please visit the county’s project page.
Spotsylvania County
·      Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) Bridge Replacement – Road CLOSED
