Single Vehicle Crash Results In Driver Fatality, Four-Year-Old Passenger Survives

ESSEX CO., Va. – On December 21, 2018 (Friday) at approximately, 9:26 a.m., the Virginia State Police responded to a single vehicle crash involving a fatality at eastbound Route 619, .25 miles east of Route 620. 

The trooper’s preliminary investigation reveals that a 1998 Dodge Durango, driven by, Mara B. Newcomb, 28, of King William, Va., was traveling eastbound on route 619 when she ran off road right, over corrected going off road right again, striking the embankment, and overturning the vehicle. 
Newcomb was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.  Unfortunately, Newcomb succumbed to her injuries at the scene.  A 4-year-old child passenger, that was properly secured in a child safety seat, was transported to the hospital for observation and precautionary reasons. 
The crash remains under investigation.
