Interstate 95 – Southbound
Expect a single lane closure on I-95 southbound between Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) in Stafford County and mile marker 129, which is just south of Exit 130 (Route 3) in the City of Fredericksburg.
Route 17 – Northbound (24-hour closure)
Be alert to the 24-hour closure of a single right lane on Route 17 northbound between Sanford Drive and Short Street in Stafford on Mondays through Fridays for project construction activities. The 24-hour closure is needed to allow crews to work safely with construction equipment near the on- and off-ramps, travel lanes and underneath the I-95 overpasses.
Route 17 – Southbound
Expect a single right lane closure on Route 17 southbound between Sanford Drive and Short Street for bridge construction.
Courthouse Road Widening Work:
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect brief delays with alternating, one-way traffic at the following locations:
A flagging crew will direct drivers in each work zone.
I-95 Northbound
(New)Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Expect a single lane closure on I-95 northbound at Exit 118/Mudd Tavern Road for roadway construction.
Mudd Tavern Road and Mallard Road
Tuesday – Thursday,9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Mudd Tavern Road and Mallard Road near the interchange for construction. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.
Stafford County Work Zones
I-95 Express Lanes
(New)Wednesday – Thursday, 9:30 p.m. – 4 a.m.Expect a single lane closure in the I-95 Express Lanes between mile marker 146 and mile marker 145 located near Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville). Beginning at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, crews will be inspecting the Express Lanes bridges over Aquia Creek and over I-95 southbound. All lanes will be open to traffic by 4 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24.
I-95 Southbound
(New)Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on I-95 southbound between mile marker 145 and mile marker 144.5 just north of Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville). Crews will be inspecting the I-95 southbound bridge over Aquia Creek.
Route 3 Eastbound 24-Hour Lane Closure
A single lane is closed on Route 3 eastbound between Leonard Road and James Ashby Parkway for a Stafford County utility project. The lane closure will remain for the duration of the county project.
Route 3 Westbound 24-Hour Lane Closure
(New)Beginning Monday, Jan. 28, a 24-hour single lane closure will begin on Route 3 westbound between James Ashby Parkway and Leonard Road in connection with a Stafford County utility project. This single lane closure is in addition to the single lane closure on Route 3 eastbound. The single lane closure on Route 3 westbound is expected to remain in place for approximately 30 days.
Spotsylvania County Work Zone
Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) at I-95
Sunday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound at the I-95 overpasses for bridge repairs.
Caroline County Work Zones
Route 207 Eastbound
(New)Wednesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.Bridge repairs on Route 207 eastbound over Polecat Creek. Beam end repairs. Route 207 eastbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane. Work will be underway for approximately two months.
American with Disabilities Act Ramp Repair
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Motorists should be alert to a mobile work zone with crews and construction equipment at the following intersections:
Crews are making repairs to the ADA (American with Disabilities Act) ramps and pedestrian crossings on these routes. There may be temporary, alternating shoulder closures or flagging operations with this work.
Caroline County/King George County Work Zone
Monday − Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound near the James Madison Bridge over the Rappahannock River for a bridge maintenance project. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.
Town of West Point Work Zones
Eltham Bridge
(New)Tuesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – noon. Expect a single lane closure on the Eltham Bridge while crews prepare for upcoming bridge maintenance work.
Lord Delaware Bridge
(New)Tuesday – Thursday, Noon – 3 p.m. Expect a single lane closure on the Lord Delaware bridge while crews prepare for upcoming bridge maintenance work.
Other Fredericksburg District Projects
Stafford County
Route 608 (Brooke Road): ROAD CLOSED
Brooke Road is closed to through traffic near Eskimo Hill Road. This is a Stafford County project to realign the roadway to improve safety and drainage. The road will reopen by February 28, 2019. For more information about the project and the detour route, please visit the county’s project page.
Spotsylvania County
Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) Bridge Replacement: ROAD CLOSED
Construction is underway to build a replacement bridge on Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) over the North Anna River, which will restore a connection between Hanover County and Spotsylvania County. The new bridge is estimated to open in late February 2019. Visit the project page for additional details.
Lancaster County
Route 222 (Weems Road): ROAD CLOSED
Weems Road is closed to through traffic between Gaskins Road and Christ Church Road for an emergency project to replace a failed drainage pipe and reconstruct the road and travel surface. Detour signs have been posted to guide motorists through the work zone. The road is anticipated to reopen in late January 2019.
Emergency Road Repairs: Tropical Storm Michael
Emergency repair work continues to rebuild several state-maintained roads that sustained severe damage during Tropical Storm Michael. These roads require major reconstruction or replacement of pipes and culverts before they can safely be reopened. Emergency procurement methods are being used to expedite repairs.
