Building Permits May Soon Be Issued By County For Colonial Beach Construction

The resignation of building inspector Anthony “Tony” Swinson has lead the town to seek a new building inspector.

Discussions regarding the search for a new official uncovered some aspects of acquiring a building permit that most home buyers don’t think about before purchasing plans to build a new home.

Westmoreland County 5th District Supervisor Larry Roberson said one of the issues facing the building inspectors today is that many home buyers/builders purchase plans online which do not follow Virginia or Westmoreland County codes. These plans have an out of state seal that can not be excepted, so turn around time for permitting is hard to predict. Roberson said, “The days of drawing plans on a napkin are long over.”
