Bus Crash in Prince George’s County Results in Fatalities

Update on Fatal #PrinceGeorgeCounty I-95 Bus Crash

Charges are pending against the driver of a commercial bus that overturned along Interstate 95 in Prince George County, Va. Tuesday morning (March 19). Two passengers did not survive the crash and numerous other passengers are still be treated at area hospitals for treatment.

The crash occurred Tuesday (March 19) at approximately 5:22 a.m. when a Tao’s Travel Inc. bus overturned at the on-ramp for Exit 45. The bus was headed north on I-95 when it attempted to take the exit ramp. The vehicle ended up running off the left side of the ramp and overturned.

The state police has been informed that there were 57 on board the bus – 56 passengers and the driver. There are two confirmed fatalities – one died at the scene and the second a few hours later at a nearby hospital. The remaining passengers’ injuries range from minor to serious.

The bus driver, a 40-year-old male from Staten Island, N.Y., was not injured in the crash.

The bus departed from Orlando, #Florida. It had stopped in Rocky Mount, N.C., to switch drivers and was continuing north to its final destination in #NewYork City when the crash occurred.

A representative with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is on scene. The NTSB has been notified. The Virginia State Police Motor Carrier Safety Team is on scene assisting with the crash investigation. Prince George County Fire and EMS and EMS has been on scene, as well.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Family Reunification # & Center:
Family members can call the Prince George County Emergency Services Center at 804-733-2659 for information related to those on the bus. A Family Reunification Center is being established at the Prince George County Central Wellness Center at 11023 Prince George Drive in Disputanta, Va 23842.

Area hospitals are providing transportation to the Family Reunification Center in Prince George County for passengers who have been treated and are ready for release.
