I-95 Northbound and I-95 Southbound
Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)
  •        Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.
Be alert to overnight shoulder closures on I-95 northbound and I-95 southbound at various locations between Exit 148 (Quantico) in Prince William County and Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) in Stafford County for geotechnical boring work for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.
I-95 Northbound
Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) in Stafford County
  • Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Expect a single lane closure on I-95 northbound near Exit 133, just north of the Rappahannock River bridge in Stafford. Expect heavy truck traffic between mile marker 132 and mile marker 134. Be alert to trucks slowing down to enter or exit the median at various construction entrances throughout the work zone. The work zone is needed for construction activities for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing.
Exit 148 (Quantico)

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 northbound near Exit 148 (Quantico) in Prince William County for geotechnical boring work for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.
I-95 Southbound

Near Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg)
  • Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m.
  • Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.
Expect alternating single lane closures and shoulder closures on I-95 southbound from mile marker 135, just south of Exit 136/Centreport Parkway in Stafford County to Exit 130 (Route 3) in Fredericksburg for construction activities for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing.

Route 1 Northbound and Southbound: Fredericksburg Area
During the next two weeks, drivers on Route 1 northbound and southbound in Caroline, Stafford and Spotsylvania counties should expect delays for a northbound mobile operation and a southbound single lane closure at various locations between the Hanover County line and the Prince William County line.
Crews will be installing centerline rumble strips and refreshing the pavement markings in the mobile work zone.
Beginning Monday, drivers traveling north on Route 1 will encounter a slow-moving mobile operation at various locations. Drivers traveling south on Route 1 will encounter a single lane closure in the vicinity of the northbound mobile operation. The mobile operation will begin in Caroline County at the Hanover County line and travel northbound each day between 7:30 p.m. – 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Stafford County Work Zones
Route 3 at Route 606 (Ferry Road) Intersection
Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect alternating single lane closures and turn lane closures on Route 3 and on Route 606 (Ferry Road) as the Route 606 (Ferry Road) Intersection Improvement Project continues.
Route 3 Eastbound and Westbound 24-Hour Lane Closure
Route 3 traffic between Leonard Road and James Ashby Parkway has been reduced to a single lane for a Stafford County utility project.
Route 1209 (Choptank Road)
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment working along the shoulder on Choptank Road between Furnace Road and Wood Drive. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone when necessary.
Route 17 near Fauquier County Line
Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 17 northbound and southbound near the Stafford County and Fauquier County line to allow crews to make repairs to the bridges over Deep Run.
Route 607 (River Road) Daily Road Closures
Tuesday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Route 607 (River Road) will be closed each day during this time for a Stafford County project. A detour will be in place.
Route 628 (American Legion Road)
Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 628 (American Legion Road) at the bridge over I-95, which is between Bower’s Lane and Ellison Court for geotechnical boring work for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. A flagging crew will direct drivers through the work zone.
Route 630 (Courthouse Road) at Route 1
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 630 (Courthouse Road) between Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) and Austin Ridge Drive for utility marking for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. A flagging crew will direct drivers through the work zone.
Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Widening Work:
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect brief delays with alternating, one-way traffic at the following locations:
  • Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane to Walpole Street and Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive.
  • Ramoth Church Road
  • Snowbird Lane
  • Winding Creek Road between Courthouse Road and Embrey Mill Road
  • Woodcutters Road
  • Wyche Road
Spotsylvania County Work Zones
Mudd Tavern Road
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Mudd Tavern Road near the I-95 interchange for construction. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.
Mallard Road
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Mallard Road near the I-95 interchange for construction. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.
Caroline County/King George County Work Zone
Monday − Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound near the James Madison Bridge over the Rappahannock River for a bridge maintenance project. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.
Essex County Work Zones
Route 17 Northbound and Southbound Line Striping
Wednesday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Crews will be line striping on Route 17 northbound and southbound in Essex County. Motorists should anticipate single lane closures and flaggers in the slow-moving mobile work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow any congestion to clear. A flagging crew may direct drivers in certain areas near the mobile work zone. The mobile operation will be at the following locations on
Route 17:
  • Route 17 southbound – between Piscataway Creek and the Middlesex County line.
  • Route 17 northbound – between the Middlesex County line and Route 1101
  • Route 17 northbound – between Route 624 from just north of Route 637
King George County Work Zones
Route 301 Southbound
Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. A single lane and the shoulder will be closed on Route 301 southbound just north of Route 607 for guardrail installation.
Installation of Centerline Rumple Strips and Pavement Markers
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Drivers should expect delays and flagging operations at various locations for a mobile operation to install centerline rumble strips followed by striping. Expect slow moving equipment near the mobile work zone. A flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic near the work zones which include:
  • Route 205 from Route 301 to the Westmoreland County line
  • Route 218 from the Stafford County line to Caledon State Park
  • Route 218 from Route 205 to Route 301
King and Queen County Work Zone
Route 14
Monday − Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect brief delays and a flagging operation on Route 14 between Route 360 (Richmond Tappahannock Highway) and Route 614 (Devils Three Jump Road) for pavement repair. A flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic near the mobile work zone. Be alert to crews working and slow-moving construction equipment within the mobile operation.
Lancaster County Work Zones
Line Striping
Tuesday − Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures and possible delays on various primary and secondary routes for a mobile operation. Motorists should expect slow-moving construction equipment and delays near the mobile work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear. A flagging crew may direct drivers in certain areas near the mobile work zone. The mobile operation will be at the following locations in Lancaster County:
  • Route 3 between Richmond County line and Route 614
  • Route 3 between Route 614 and Route 607
  • Route 3 between Route 651 and Route 200 at the Town of Whitestone
  • Route 200 near Route 634 and Town of Kilmarnock

Middlesex County Work Zones

Route 200
Monday − Tuesday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures and possible delays on Route 200 between the Lancaster County line and Route 699 for a mobile operation. Motorists should expect slow moving construction equipment and delays near the mobile work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear. A flagging crew may direct drivers in certain areas near the mobile work zone.
Richmond County Work Zone

Wednesday – Thursday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Crews will be refreshing the pavement markings at the following locations in Richmond County:
Route 360 Eastbound and Westbound
  • From the east end of the Downing Bridge to Route 624.
  • From just west of Route 697 to just west of the Northumberland County line.
  • In the vicinity of the Northumberland County line.
Route 624
From Route 360 to the Westmoreland County line.
Motorists should expect slow-moving construction equipment and delays near the mobile work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear. Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Crews will be refreshing the pavement markings at the following locations in Westmoreland County:

  • From the King George County line to Route 1301
  • From just east of Route 205 to just west of Route 664
  • From just west of Route 204 from Route 623

Middlesex County
Route 622 (Dirt Bridge Road): ROAD CLOSED
Dirt Bridge Road was closed between Route 3 (Greys Point Road) and Route 623 (Regent Road) on Thursday, April 4, for motorist safety after a drainage pipe failure. Emergency repair work underway. Road is anticipated to reopen on Wednesday, May 1
Stafford County
Route 3 Business and Route 606 (Ferry Road) Intersection
Workis underway to improve this intersection. Motorists should be alert for construction activity on Route 3 Business and on Ferry Road between the CSX railroad crossing and Route 3 Business. For more information about the project, please visit the project page.
Route 608 (Brooke Road): ROAD CLOSED
Brooke Road is closed to through traffic near Eskimo Hill Road. This is a Stafford County project to realign the roadway to improve safety and drainage. The road will reopen by July 2019. For more information about the project and the detour route, please visit the county’s project page.
Spotsylvania County
 Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) Bridge Replacement: ROAD CLOSED
Construction is underway to build a replacement bridge on Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) over the North Anna River, which will restore a connection between Hanover County and Spotsylvania County. The new bridge is estimated to open in summer 2019. Visit the project page for additional details.
King and Queen County
Route 660 (Sorghum Road) Bridge Replacement: ROAD CLOSED
Construction is underwayto build a replacement bridge on Route 660 (Sorghum Road) over Mill Stream. Crews are removing the existing structurally deficient bridge, which is located between Route 619 (Owens Mill Road) and Route 721 (Newtown Road). A new structure will be installed. Weather permitting, Sorghum Road will re-open in early April 2019.
Emergency Road Repairs: Tropical Storm Michael
Emergency repair work continues to rebuild several state-maintained roads that sustained severe damage during Tropical Storm Michael. These roads require major reconstruction or replacement of pipes and culverts before they can safely be reopened. Emergency procurement methods are being used to expedite repairs.
Estimated construction schedules for the remaining closed roads in Fredericksburg District are listed below:
King William County
  • Route 662 (Sharon Road): Anticipated to reopen in August 2019.Crews will reconstruct a slope near the road and repair the culvert.
Northumberland County
  • Route 201 (Courthouse Road): Anticipated to reopen in June 2019. Crews are replacing a damaged set of four 96-inch drainage pipes with a triple set of concrete box culverts, with each culvert measuring 12 feet by 10 feet. The new culverts arrived in early March, and crews are in the process of moving them into place.
  • Route 634 (Spring Road): Anticipated to reopen in August 2019.Crews are repairing the bridge and replacing a washed out section of road.
Westmoreland County
  • Route 600 (Nomini Grove Road): Anticipated to reopen in August 2019.Crews are repairing a void underneath the road and replacing a washed out section of road.
Motorists are reminded to adhere to all road closed signs and barricades, and to follow the posted detour route. Roads have been closed for traveler safety.
