I-95 Northbound and Southbound
Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 130 (Fredericksburg)
Expect alternating single lane closures and shoulder closures on I-95 northbound and southbound between Exit 148 (Quantico) in Prince William County to Exit 130 (Fredericksburg) for multiple work zones for various construction activities for the Improve 95 projects, or for geotechnical boring work and utility marking for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. A work zone may be two miles to five miles long. Expect daytime and overnight lane closures. Delays are possible. Use caution with crews and construction equipment in the median and along the shoulders. Be alert to trucks slowing down to enter or exit the median at various construction entrances throughout the work zone.

I-95 Northbound
Exit 118 (Route 606/Mudd Tavern Road) Spotsylvania County
Starting Monday, May 6, a new traffic signal to control traffic entering I-95 northbound at Exit 118/Thornburg at the Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road), Mallard Road and Dominion Raceway Avenue intersection will be placed into flash mode after the morning rush hour. The traffic signal will flash for approximately 48 hours to allow motorists to adjust to its presence.
On Wednesday, May 8, the traffic signal will be placed into full color operation after the peak morning travel period. View an online map of the new on-ramp and temporary traffic pattern in the work zone.
Districtwide Pavement Marking Mobile Operation
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures and possible delays at various locations in King and Queen County while crews replace existing pavement markings. Motorists should expect slow moving construction equipment and delays near the mobile work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear. A flagging crew may direct drivers in certain areas near the mobile work zone.
King William County
·      Route 30 between Route 360 and Route 617

Stafford County Work Zones
Route 3 Eastbound and Westbound 24-Hour Lane Closure
Route 3 traffic between Leonard Road and James Ashby Parkway has been reduced to a single lane for a Stafford County utility project.
Route 17 Northbound at I-95 FULL TRAFFIC STOP
Wednesday, Midnight – 3 a.m., ALL traffic on Route 17 northbound will be stopped overnight for up to 30 minutes between midnight and 3 a.m. The full stop is needed to allow crews to move a crane in the median as part of the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project. Message boards on Route 17 northbound will be posted. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control at the interchange.
Route 17 Northbound at I-95
Tuesday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. and Friday, 8 p.m. – 12 a.m. Saturday, A single left lane on Route 17 northbound will be closed near the I-95 overpasses for construction activities.
Route 17 near Fauquier County Line
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 17 northbound and southbound near the Stafford County and Fauquier County line to allow crews to improve signage at various crossovers.
Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Fred Ex Work:
Monday – Friday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 9 a.m. Expect a mobile operation on Courthouse Road between Austin Ridge Drive and Route 1 for geotechnical boring work and utility marking for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.
Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Widening Work:
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 noon Expect brief delays with alternating, one-way traffic at the following locations:
·      Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane to Walpole Street and Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive.
·      Ramoth Church Road
·      Snowbird Lane
·      Winding Creek Road between Courthouse Road and Embrey Mill Road

Route 652 (Truslow Road)
Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect a mobile operation on Truslow Road between Samuels Lane and Beagle Road for geotechnical boring work and utility marking for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.
Routine Maintenance
Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
  • Route 626 (Leeland Road) – ditch cleaning
  • Route 633 (Arkendale Road) – ditch cleaning
Spotsylvania County Work Zones
I-95 Southbound at Exit 118/Thornburg
Monday – Thursday, 9:30 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect a single left lane to be closed on I-95 southbound near the Exit 118/Thornburg interchange to allow crews to install guardrail along the median as part of the interchange improvement and overpass replacment project.
Mudd Tavern Road and Mallard Road
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Mudd Tavern Road and Mallard Road near the I-95 interchange for construction. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.
Routine Maintenance
Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
  • Route 610 (Elys Ford Road) – ditch cleaning
  • Route 613 (Brock Road) – ditch cleaning
  • Route 618 (River Road) – ditch cleaning
  • Route 621 (Orange Plank Road) – ditch cleaning
  • Route 639 (Levells Road) – curb and gutter repairs
  • Route 674 (Chancellor Road) – ditch cleaning
  • Route 1521 (Eustace Road) – pavement repairs
Caroline County Work Zones
Pavement Marking Removal and Replacement – Mobile Operation
Monday –  Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Drivers should expect delays at various locations for a mobile operation to eradicate pavement markers at the following locations to continue this week. Expect slow moving equipment near the mobile work zone. A flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic near the work zones.
·       Route 1202 from Route 619 to the end of state maintenance
·       Route 1203 from Route 2/301 Business to the end of state maintenance

Caroline County/King George County Work Zone
Monday − Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound near the James Madison Bridge over the Rappahannock River for a bridge maintenance project. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.
Essex County Work Zone
Route 607 (Muddy Gut Road)
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.Drivers should expect alternating lane closures on Route 607 (Muddy Gut Road) just east of Route 606 while crews install a new culvert and culvert liner. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone.
Lancaster County Work Zones
Surface Treatment
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be applying surface treatment at various locations in Lancaster County. Traffic control will be provided at each location which may include the use of flaggers or a pilot truck to guide motorists through each work zone. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment in the following work zones:

·      Route 729
·      Route 1037
Northumberland County Work Zones
Route 614 (Lake Road)
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be applying surface treatment or removing existing pavement markings on Route 614 (Lake Road) from Route 360 (Northumberland Highway) to Route 627 (Lake Landing Drive). Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment. Flaggers will direct drivers near the mobile operation.
Richmond County Work Zones
Surface Treatment or Pavement Eradication
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be applying surface treatment or removing existing pavement markings at various locations in Richmond County. Traffic control will be provided at each location which may include the use of flaggers or a pilot truck to guide motorists through each work zone. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment in the following work zones:
·       Route 602 from Route 692 to Route 612
·       Route 690 from Route 3 Business and Route 621
Westmoreland County Work Zones
Route 622 (Panorama Road)
Thursday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 622 (Panorama Road) between Route 644 (Wild Sally Road) and Route 648 (Stratford Hall Road) for paving. A flagging crew will direct drivers in the work zone.
Route 631
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be applying removing existing pavement markings on Route 631 from Route 205 to Rout 628. Motorists should be alert to construction crews and equipment. Flaggers will direct drivers near the mobile operation.
Other Fredericksburg District Projects
Middlesex County
·       Route 622 (Dirt Bridge Road): ROAD CLOSED
Dirt Bridge Road was closed between Route 3 (Greys Point Road) and Route 623 (Regent Road) on Thursday, April 4, for motorist safety after a drainage pipe failure. Emergency repair work underway. Road is anticipated to reopen on Wednesday, May 1.
Stafford County
·       Route 3 Business and Route 606 (Ferry Road) Intersection
Workis underway to improve this intersection. Motorists should be alert for construction activity on Route 3 Business and on Ferry Road between the CSX railroad crossing and Route 3 Business. For more information about the project, please visit the project page.
·       Route 608 (Brooke Road): ROAD CLOSED
Brooke Road is closed to through traffic near Eskimo Hill Road. This is a Stafford County project to realign the roadway to improve safety and drainage. The road will reopen by July 2019. For more information about the project and the detour route, please visit the county’s project page.
Spotsylvania County
·      Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) Bridge Replacement: ROAD CLOSED
Construction is underway to build a replacement bridge on Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) over the North Anna River, which will restore a connection between Hanover County and Spotsylvania County. The new bridge is estimated to open in summer 2019. Visit the project page for additional details.
Emergency Road Repairs: Tropical Storm Michael
Emergency repair work continues to rebuild several state-maintained roads that sustained severe damage during Tropical Storm Michael. These roads require major reconstruction or replacement of pipes and culverts before they can safely be reopened. Emergency procurement methods are being used to expedite repairs.
Estimated construction schedules for the remaining closed roads in Fredericksburg District are listed below:
King William County
·      Route 662 (Sharon Road): Anticipated to reopen in August 2019.Crews will reconstruct a slope near the road and repair the culvert.
Northumberland County
·       Route 201 (Courthouse Road): Anticipated to reopen in June 2019. Crews are replacing a damaged set of four 96-inch drainage pipes with a triple set of concrete box culverts, with each culvert measuring 12 feet by 10 feet. The new culverts arrived in early March, and crews are in the process of moving them into place.
·      Route 634 (Spring Road): Anticipated to reopen in August 2019.Crews are repairing the bridge and replacing a washed out section of road.
Westmoreland County
·      Route 600 (Nomini Grove Road): Anticipated to reopen in August 2019.Crews are repairing a void underneath the road and replacing a washed out section of road.
Motorists are reminded to adhere to all road closed signs and barricades, and to follow the posted detour route. Roads have been closed for traveler safety.
