I-95 Southbound near Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) Double Lane Closures
Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. Expect a single lane to be closed on I-95 southbound near the Exit 133 interchange starting at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4 a.m. A single lane will remain closed near the interchange until 10 a.m. except on Friday, June 7 when all lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. The double lane closures are needed to allow crews to lift beams for the new I-95 overpasses of Route 17 as part of the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project.
Route 17 Northbound and Southbound at the I-95 Overpasses FULL STOPS
Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4 a.m. A single lane on Route 17 northbound and southbound will close at 9 p.m. Starting at 11 p.m., there will be intermittent full traffic stops up to 30 minutes at a time on Route 17 until 4 a.m. All Route 17 traffic will be stopped as crews lift and install bridge beams for the new I-95 overpasses. Congestion will be cleared in between each beam placement.
I-95 Northbound Exit Ramp to Exit 133B/Warrenton
Monday – Friday, 11 p.m. – 4 a.m. Expect intermittent exit ramp closures up to 30 minutes. Travelers should use Exit 130/Route 3 or Exit 136/Centreport Parkway as alternate exit during closures.
I-95 Southbound Exit Ramp at Exit 133A/Falmouth
Monday – Friday, 11 p.m. – 4 a.m. Expect intermittent exit ramp closures up to 30 minutes.
Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control in the work zone.
Alternate Routes
I-95 southbound travelers are advised to use Route 1 southbound to avoid delays on these evenings. Message boards on I-95 will provide advance notice of lane closures and detour routes.
Route 17 travelers can use the most convenient alternate route, depending on their destination.
I-95 Paving Operations
I-95 Northbound at Exit 126 (Route 1/Massaponax) Double Lane Closures
Sunday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. A single lane on I-95 northbound will be closed at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. for milling and paving near the Exit 126 interchange. Drivers may encounter a temporary rough driving surface. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m.
I-95 Northbound and Southbound
Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg)
Expect alternating single lane closures and shoulder closures on I-95 northbound and southbound between Exit 148 (Quantico) in Prince William County to Exit 130 (Route 3) in Fredericksburg for multiple work zones for various construction activities for the Improve 95 projects, or for geotechnical boring work and utility marking for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg. A work zone may be two miles to six miles long. Delays are possible. Use caution with crews and construction equipment in the median and along the shoulders. Be alert to trucks slowing down to enter or exit the median at various construction entrances throughout the work zone.

Districtwide Pavement Marking Mobile Operation
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures and possible delays at various locations while crews replace existing pavement markings. Motorists should expect slow moving construction equipment and delays near the mobile work zone. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle. The mobile work zone will periodically pull over to allow congestion to clear. A flagging crew may direct drivers in certain areas near the mobile work zone.
Spotsylvania County
·      Route 1 Business from Route 1234 (Falcon Drive) to Fredericksburg City Limits
·      Route 208 (Courthouse Road) from Route 1401 (Wild Turkey Road) to Route 608 (Robert E. Lee Drive)

Stafford County Work Zones
Route 17 near Fauquier County Line
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 17 northbound and southbound near the Stafford County and Fauquier County line for bridge repairs near Hartlake Road.
Route 616 (Poplar Road)
Thursday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. A flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic on Route 616 (Poplar Road) between Route 612 (Tackett’s Mill Road) and the Fauquier County and Stafford County line. Crews will be patching potholes and prepare the roadway for paving.
Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Fred Ex Work:
Monday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Expect a mobile operation on Courthouse Road between Austin Ridge Drive and Route 1 for geotechnical boring work and utility marking for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.
Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Widening Work:
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect brief delays with alternating, one-way traffic at the following locations:
·      Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane to Walpole Street and Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive.
·      Ramoth Church Road
·      Snowbird Lane
·      Winding Creek Road between Courthouse Road and Embrey Mill Road
·      Woodcutters Road

Spotsylvania County Work Zones
Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) and Mallard Road
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and  Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Mudd Tavern Road and Mallard Road near the I-95 interchange for construction activities as part of the improvement interchange and Mudd Tavern overpass replacement project. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.
Towne Centre Boulevard (Private Road to Spotsylvania Towne Centre)
Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. –9 a.m. The privately owned road used as the main entrance to the Spotsylvania Towne Centre will be closed overnight for pavement work. All turn lanes on Route 3 near the mall’s main entrance will also be blocked overnight. Motorists are encouraged to use Bragg Road to enter Towne Centre Boulevard.
Caroline County Work Zones
Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) Eastbound
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on eastbound Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) between Route 656 (Coleman’s Mill Road) and Penola Road for bridge repairs. Delays are possible.
Caroline County/King George County Work Zone
Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound near the James Madison Bridge over the Rappahannock River for a bridge maintenance project. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.
Gloucester County Work Zone
Route 601 (Pampa Road)
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 601 (Pampa Road) between Route 610 (Woods Cross Road) and Route 198 (Glenns Road) for milling and paving. A flagging crew will direct traffic in the work zone. Motorists may experience a temporary, rough surface.
Route 614 (Hickory Fork Road)
Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect flagging operations on Route 614 (Hickory Fork Road) between Route 616 (S. Belroi Road) and Route 606 (Ark Road) for milling and paving. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic in the work zone.
King and Queen County Work Zone
Route 14 (The Trail)
Monday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. A flagging crew will direct traffic on Route 14 (The Trail) near Route 33 (Lewis Puller Memorial Highway) to allow crews to repair or install guardrail.
Route 605 (York River Road)
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect flagging operations on Route 605 (York River Road) between Route 606 (Taylorsville Road) and Route 601 (Stratton Major Road) for paving. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic in the work zone. Delays are possible.
Route 621 (Bruington Road)
Monday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. A flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic on Route 621 (Bruington Road) near Route 14 (The Trail) to allow crews to repair or install guardrail.
King William County Work Zone
Route 360 (Richmond Tappahannock Highway)
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on northbound Route 360 between Mount Pleasant Road and Commerce Park Drive to allow crews to repair the bridge over Moncuin Creek. Delays are possible.
Middlesex County Work Zone
Route 3 (Grey’s Point Road)
Thursday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. Expect a single lane closure and flagging operations on  Route 3 (Grey’s Point Road) near Route 33 (General Puller Highway) and Piankatank Bridge for paving. The bridge connects Middlesex County and Mathews County. Delays are possible.
Route 623 (Regent Road)
Tuesday – Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect flagging operations on Route 623 (Regent Road) between Route 624 (Syringa Road) and Route 622 (Dirt Bridge Road) for paving. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic in the work zone.
Route 624 (Syringa Road)
Tuesday – Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect flagging operations on Route 624 (Syringa Road) between Route 626 (Wake Road) and Route 623 (Regent Road) to allow crews to place stone along the shoulders. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic in the work zone.
Northumberland County Work Zones
Surface Treatment
Monday –Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect flagging operations on various low-volume secondary routes throughout Northumberland County for surface treatment.
Richmond County Work Zone
Route 621 (Chestnut Hill Road)
Tuesday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. A flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic on Route 621 (Chestnut Hill Road) near Route 690 (Menokin Road) to allow crews to repair or install guardrail.
Other Fredericksburg District Projects
Stafford County
·       Route 3 Business and Route 606 (Ferry Road) Intersection
Workis underway to improve this intersection. Motorists should be alert for construction activity on Route 3 Business and on Ferry Road between the CSX railroad crossing and Route 3 Business. For more information about the project, please visit the project page.
·       Route 608 (Brooke Road): ROAD CLOSED
Brooke Road is closed to through traffic near Eskimo Hill Road. This is a Stafford County project to realign the roadway to improve safety and drainage. The road will reopen by July 2019. For more information about the project and the detour route, please visit the county’s project page.
Spotsylvania County
·      Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) Bridge Replacement: ROAD CLOSED
Construction is underway to build a replacement bridge on Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) over the North Anna River, which will restore a connection between Hanover County and Spotsylvania County. The new bridge is estimated to open in summer 2019. Visit the project page for additional details.
Emergency Road Repairs: Tropical Storm Michael
Emergency repair work continues to rebuild several state-maintained roads that sustained severe damage during Tropical Storm Michael. These roads require major reconstruction or replacement of pipes and culverts before they can safely be reopened. Emergency procurement methods are being used to expedite repairs.
Estimated construction schedules for the remaining closed roads in Fredericksburg District are listed below:
King William County
·      Route 662 (Sharon Road): Anticipated to reopen in August 2019.Crews will reconstruct a slope near the road and repair the culvert.
Northumberland County
·       Route 201 (Courthouse Road): Anticipated to reopen in June 2019. Crews are replacing a damaged set of four 96-inch drainage pipes with a triple set of concrete box culverts, with each culvert measuring 12 feet by 10 feet. The new culverts arrived in early March, and crews are in the process of moving them into place.
·      Route 634 (Spring Road): Anticipated to reopen in August 2019.Crews are repairing the bridge and replacing a washed out section of road.
Westmoreland County
·      Route 600 (Nomini Grove Road): Anticipated to reopen in August 2019.Crews are repairing a void underneath the road and replacing a washed out section of road.
Motorists are reminded to adhere to all road closed signs and barricades, and to follow the posted detour route. Roads have been closed for traveler safety.
