Colonial Beach Tuesday Report January 5, 2021

The Colonial Beach Town Council will hold their first work session for 2021 on Jan 6 at the town center located at 22 Washington Ave. However due to state regulations regarding concerns over spreading the dreaded covid 19 virus, only 10 people will be allowed to personally attend in the audience. The meeting will be live-streamed.
Town Clerk, Heather Oliver stated in a public email, “Due to EO 72, we are limited to an audience no larger than 10 people. The meeting will be streamed on YouTube and/or Facebook.”

On the agenda will be house keeping tasks such as voting on and setting, work session and regular meeting calendars, appointing needed committees and approving bylaws.
In addition the council plans to elect a vice mayor and will have to appoint a citizen to fill the two-year vacancy left by Robin Schick when she assumed the role as Mayor after winning the seat in the 2020 November election.
Currently the council members consist of Mayor Robin Schick who will hold her mayoral seat through 2025. Robin moves up from one of three seats held that were due to expire at the end of 2022. The other two seats are being held by Patrick Ey and Vicki Roberson. The three new council members whose seats will also run through the end of 2025 are Mike Cabrey, Caryn Self-Sullivan and Tom Moncure.
Other public discussions include liaison assignments, town manager transition assistance, public reporting and transparency and the appointment of a zoning administrator.
The staff will also update council on the status of Cares Act funding and deliver an audit update.
A closed session is expected including discussions concerning the appointment to fill the vacant council seat left by Robin Schick. An appointed member will be assigned to the seat to fill out the term until the next election. At that time other candidates will be allowed to run to fill the remainder of that vacancy. The appointed member will also be allowed to run in the election if he or she so desires.
Town Hall News:
Town Hall is currently closed to the public. All bills should be paid either online or through the mail.
Third Quarter Water Bills are due Jan 1, 2021 and late fees will be imposed on Feb 1, if not paid by the end of January.
Beaches and Parks remain open if not taped off. Mask wearing and social distancing are still encouraged when out in public and near others.
