Two occupants of a horse drawn buggy were seriously injured and the horse drawing the buggy had to be put down. The driver of the vehicle that hit the buggy was not injured.
At 5:44 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, Virginia State Police troopers responded to a crash involving a horse drawn buggy.
The accident was located on Route 3 (Historyland Highway) approximately 3/10 of a mile west of Route 614 (Folly Neck Road.) in Richmond County
The investigation indicates that the buggy was traveling east in the right lane when it was struck in the rear by an eastbound 2015 Jeep Cherokee.

The driver of the Jeep was wearing a seat belt and did not report any injury.
There were two occupants in the one horse buggy. Both were thrown from the vehicle when it was struck and suffered serious injuries.

Unfortunately the injuries suffered by the horse in the crash were too severe. At the owner’s request, the horse was humanely euthanized.
The investigation is ongoing.
