Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Mathews County. The crash occurred Oct. 18, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. on Route 198, less than a mile east of Route 3/Windsor Rd.
A 2014 Cadillac SRX was traveling west on Route 198. As the Cadillac came into a curve, it crossed the center-line and struck head-on an eastbound 2006 Toyota 4Runner. The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to spin off the road in opposite directions.
The driver of the Cadillac, Odessa B. Rich, 61, of Warsaw, Va., was transported to Walter Reed Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. She was not wearing a seat-belt.
The driver of the Toyota, Hardy L. Miller, 65, of Dutton, Va., was also transported to Walter Reed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He was not wearing a seat-belt.
The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
