Police Chase Begins at Maryland-Virginia State Line-Ends in Fredericksburg

A police chase that started at the Virginia-Maryland State line in Dahlgren Virginia ended in a crash over 30 miles away in Fredericksburg. The driver of a stolen black Kia is seen in custody on the sidewalk next to the accident. The occupants of the white car were uninvolved in the chase.

On January 2nd 2023 at approximately 3:56 PM, the Maryland Dept. of Transportation
notified our office that an LPR (license plate reader) reported a stolen vehicle had just
entered King George County from the Md. bridge on Rt. 301.

The vehicle was described as a black Kia. A deputy in the area spotted the suspect vehicle heading Southbound on Rt. 301.

Prior to the deputy activating his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed.

The deputy activated his emergency lights and siren and pursued the vehicle. A Virginia
State Trooper who was in the area also attempted to assist in stopping the vehicle.

The suspect turned onto Ridge Road, eventually making a right onto Rt. 3 heading
Westbound. As law enforcement continued to attempt to stop the vehicle, the suspect
drove into oncoming traffic and ran off the road several times in attempts to get around
traffic and elude law enforcement. At times the suspect was driving in excess of 120
mph.

Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to assist. The suspect continued Westbound on Rt.
3 and slowed upon catching up to traffic on the Chatham Bridge.

The suspect continued into Fredericksburg where he ran the red light at the intersection of Caroline St and Amelia St and struck a vehicle.

Deputies apprehended the suspect who attempted to flee the scene on foot and tended
to the occupants of the vehicle the suspect struck.
