VDOT HOT SPOTS IN THE FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT

Dec. 9 – 15, 2018

Interstate 95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing Project

Route 17 – Northbound (24-hour closure)

Be alert to the 24-hour closure of a single right lane on Route 17 northbound between Sanford Drive and Short Street for construction activities related to the project. The 24-hour closure is needed to allow crews to work safely with construction equipment near the on- and off-ramps, travel lanes and underneath the I-95 overpasses.

Interstate 95 (Exit 140/Courthouse Road)

 

I-95 Northbound

(New) Monday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  A single lane on I-95 northbound will be closed near Exit 140 to allow crews to take soil samples for a future overhead sign foundation.

(New) Monday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.  A single lane on I-95 northbound will be closed for beam placement for a new interstate ramp.

 

I-95 Northbound FULL RAMP STOPS and Courthouse Road FULL TRAFFIC STOPS

(New) Monday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. ALL traffic on the I-95 northbound on- and off-ramps at Exit 140 will be intermittently stopped overnight for up to 30 minutes at a time starting at 10 p.m. and will be completed by 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. Additionally, all Courthouse Road traffic will be stopped at the interchange during beam placement. The full stops are needed to allow crews to safely lift beams into place for a new interstate ramp. All I-95 southbound travel lanes and ramps will remain open during this work zone. Message boards on Courthouse Road are posted to provide advance notice of the work zone and possible delays. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control at the interchange.

 

I-95 Southbound

(New) Monday, 5 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. A single lane on I-95 southbound will be closed near Exit 140 to allow crews to take soil samples for a future overhead sign foundation.

 

I-95 Southbound Off-Ramp

Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.  Expect a narrowing of the off-ramp from I-95 southbound to Courthouse Road for construction activities.

Courthouse Road Widening Work:

Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect brief delays with alternating, one-way traffic at the following locations:

  • Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane to Walpole Street and Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive.
  • Ramoth Church Road
  • Snowbird Lane
  • Winding Creek Road
  • Woodcutters Road
  • Wyche Road

A flagging crew will direct drivers in each work zone.

Interstate 95 at Exit 118/Mudd Tavern Road Widening and Bridge Replacement Project

Mudd Tavern Road and Mallard Road

Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.  Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Mudd Tavern Road and Mallard Road near the interchange for construction. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.

Districtwide Guardrail Repair

 

(New) Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Crews will be repairing or replacing guardrail along various routes throughout the Fredericksburg District. Expect single lane closures and a flagging crew to direct drivers in the work zone at the following locations:

Caroline County

  • Route 207 Westbound at the bridge over Pole Cat Creek

King George

  • Route 3 Eastbound near Route 677 crossover
  • Route 301 Southbound near Route 3 intersection
  • Route 301 Southbound near the James Madison Bridge to Port Royal

Essex County

  • Route 17 Southbound near Goldberry Lane

Spotsylvania County

  • Route 612 at the bridge over the Ni River

Stafford County

  • Route 1 Northbound near Route 1769
  • Route 3 Eastbound near Route 603

Stafford County Work Zones

Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway)

(New) Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect a single right lane on Route 1 northbound and southbound to be closed for turn lane construction. Delays are possible.

Route 3 Eastbound 24-Hour Lane Closure

A single lane is closed on Route 3 eastbound between Leonard Road and James Ashby Parkway for a Stafford County utility project. The lane closure will remain for the duration of the county’s project.

 

Route 608 (Deacon Road)

(New) Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Expect alternating shoulder closures and turn lane closures on Deacon Road in front of the VDOT offices for a pedestrian crossing improvement project.

 

Route 628 (Eskimo Hill Road)

(New) Saturday, Dec. 15, 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on on Route 628 (Eskimo Hill Road) to allow crews to inspect the bridge over CSX railroad tracks. A flagging crew will direct traffic over the bridge. Delays are possible.

Spotsylvania County Work Zones

 

Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway)

(Update) Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound at the I-95 overpasses for bridge repairs.

 

Routine Maintenance

Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

  • Route 208(Courthouse Road) – vegetation control
  • Route 621 (Orange Plank Road) – pavement repairs and ditch cleaning

Caroline County Work Zones

Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard)

(New) Sunday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Expect a single lane closure on Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) to allow crews to inspect the bridge over CSX railroad tracks. Delays are possible.

Routine Maintenance

Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

  • Route 301(Richmond Turnpike) – pothole patching
  • Route 600 (Frog Level Road) – brush removal
  • Route 603 (County Line Road)– ditch cleaning
  • Route 652 (Baylor Road) – ditch cleaning
  • Route 653 (Burrus Lane) – ditch cleaning
  • Route 654 (Kidds Ford Road) – pipe/culvert repair
  • Route 662 (Gregory Road) – ditch cleaning
  • Route 1041 (Portabago Trail) – ditch cleaning
  • Route 1042 (Goose Point Court) – ditch cleaning

Caroline County/King George County Work Zone

Route 301 at Rappahannock River (James Madison Bridge)

Monday − Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound near the James Madison Bridge over the Rappahannock River for a bridge maintenance project. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.

King George County Work Zone

Route 218 (Caledon Road)

(New) Monday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 218 (Caledon Road) at Abingdon Retreat Lane for bridge inspection. A flagging crew will direct drivers over the bridge. Delays are possible.

Essex County and Richmond County Work Zones

 

Route 360 at the Downing Bridge

(Update) Monday – Sunday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on the Downing Bridge over the Rappahannock River for bridge repairs. Automatic flagging devices will be placed near the center span of the bridge to control traffic. Expect overnight delays.

 

Gloucester County Work Zones

Route 17 at Guinea Road

(Update) Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 17 near Guinea Road  and Ernest Lane for traffic signal installation. Delays are possible.

Route 33 at Rappahannock Community College

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.  Expect a single lane and shoulder closures on Route 33 near the Rappahannock Community College campus. Construction is underway to extend the existing turn lanes and taper the area.

King William County Work Zone

 

Route 30

(Update) Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 30 in King William County near the Caroline County line to allow crews to install center line rumble strips. Expect brief delays at various locations with the mobile operation.

Other Fredericksburg District Projects

Stafford County

  • Route 608 (Brooke Road) CLOSED for Stafford County Project

Brooke Road is closed near Eskimo Hill Road. This is a Stafford County project to realign the roadway to improve safety and drainage. The road will remain closed until January 2019. For more information about the project and the detour route, please visit the county’s project page.

 

Spotsylvania County

  • Route 658 (Mount Olive Road) Bridge Replacement – Road CLOSED
