VSP Investigating Two Separate Fatal Accidents From Sunday Morning.

Virginia State Police are investigating two separate early morning crashes that occurred on Sunday February 19, 2023. Both resulting in fatal injuries.

Fatal Crash In Tappahanock

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened early this morning in Tappahanock Virginia. According to the press release from VSP the crash was precipitated by a police pursuit. We are waiting for information from Richmond County Sheriff’s Office for details.

According to a press release issued by Public Information Officer Sergeant Jessica B. Shehan, At approximately 1:40 a.m. on Sunday (Feb 19, 2023), Virginia State Police was called to investigate a single-vehicle crash just past the Downing Bridge, in the intersection of Route 360 and Route 17 in the Town of Tappahannock.

A 2020 Genesis G70 struck a stop light, a parked vehicle, and chain link fence, and a tree. Speed is thought to be a factor in the crash.

The body of the driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy, examination, and positive identification. 

The crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the VSP Richmond Division Crash Reconstruction Team.

A police pursuit precipitated the crash. We are waiting for information from Richmond County Sheriff’s Office for details.

Richmond County Fatal Crash

At 3:30 a.m. on Sunday (Feb 19, 2023), Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Rte. 3 and Rte. 601 in Richmond County.

A 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix ran off the road to the right and struck a tree. 

The driver, Joseph Bradley Lane Jr., 25, of Lancaster, died at the scene. He was wearing a seat-belt. 

This crash remains under investigation.
