Expect overnight delays with multiple work zones on I-95 northbound and southbound, including full closures at Exit 118/Thornburg
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Drivers should anticipate overnight delays on Interstate 95 this week, with multiple work zones requiring double lane closures in the Fredericksburg area starting tonight.
Later this week, full traffic stops on I-95 northbound and southbound are scheduled at Exit 118/Thornburg to allow crews to install bridge forms and deck overhangs as part of the I-95 Overpass Replacement and Mudd Tavern Road widening project.
Overnight travelers on I-95 are encouraged to use Route 1 or Route 301 to avoid delays.
The following lane closures are scheduled, weather permitting, from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m.
I-95 Northbound
- Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road) FULL CLOSURE
o Wednesday – Thursday: Expect a single lane to be closed at 9:30 p.m. on I-95 northbound followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Between midnight and 5 a.m., all northbound traffic will be detoured to the exit ramp, directed across Mudd Tavern Road, and guided onto the entrance ramp to the interstate. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Thursday. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.
- Mile Marker 121 at Ni River Bridge
o Monday: A single lane will close at 9:30 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. at the Ni River bridge as part of the bridge rehabilitation project. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. The bridge is located at mile marker 121, just before Exit 126 (Massaponax).
- Exit 130 (Route 3) City of Fredericksburg
o Monday − Friday: A single lane will close at 9 p.m. on I-95 northbound followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. The work is connected to the I-95 Safety Improvements Project at the Exit 130 interchange.
- Mile Marker 137 at Potomac Creek Bridge
o Monday – Friday: A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning. The bridge is located at mile marker 137, just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway).
- Mile Marker 145 at Aquia Creek Bridge
o Monday – Friday: A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning. The bridge is located at mile marker 145, just north of Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville).
I-95 Southbound
- Mile Marker 145 at Aquia Creek Bridge
o Monday – Friday: A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 7 a.m. on southbound except on Friday when all lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. On Friday, a single lane will close at 10 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at midnight. All will lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Saturday.
- Mile Marker 137 at Potomac Creek Bridge
o Monday – Friday: A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 7 a.m. the following morning except on Friday when all lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. On Friday, a single lane will close at 10 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at midnight. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Saturday.
- Mile Marker 121 at Ni River Bridge
o Tuesday: A single lane will close at 9:30 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
- Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road) FULL CLOSURE
o Thursday – Friday: Expect a single lane to be closed at 9:30 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Between midnight and 5 a.m., all southbound traffic will be detoured to the exit ramp, directed across Mudd Tavern Road, and guided onto the entrance ramp to the interstate. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.
Overhead message boards will warn drivers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and delays.
